I have Golden pheasants and my pheasant pen is finally almost completed. The pen is
8 ft wide x 16 ft long with 1x1 welded wire all around including the floor. I decided on sand for the base and am planting some tall grass and a small pine in there which can be trimmed. The back 3 1/2 feet of the pen is board and batton with a plywood roof. I planned on putting some type of shelter under that area and using a skid covered with plywood as a base. I am totally stumped on what to do for their housel. I read some people use a dog house then I see others have a building with a roost in it. I am so confused, are there specific dimensions and requirements I should be looking for at least? I am in an area that gets the odd bad winter storm. Please help, it is the last thing I need to get done and I am at a loss here.

Pheasants like to be out in the open, very rarely go in a house. They like to roost as high as possible, but no to high as a predator can reach down and grab them.A covered roof will suit them just fine.

Thanks Tony, I had read they like the open but also saw they may go in a house in really bad weather, It is really hard to find info on ornamental pheasants. For chickens you can find a good book but pheasant seems kind of basic
