I set mine up, and put the thermometer in it about 2 hours ago, its spot on, I Know it has a thermostat, but is there somewhere you are able to see the temp on the thermostat, or do you just trust its right? Also do you leave the vent plug in or take it out. I don't have a humitiy gage in it yet, will get one tomorrow. I won't be setting eggs till mid week

Not s stupid question! I have 2 of these and just love them. I have never had to adjust the temp. You can't see the temp. on the thermostat. You just have to go by your thermometer and how your hatches go. Your plugs are determined by your humidity. I believe Montana is pretty dry so you may need to leave yours in. Run it about 40% humidity for the first 18 days then you can bump it to about 50-55%. I would not go higher than that. There is also a section on here on how to calibrate your hygrometer so you may want to find that thread as well.
Good luck to you!

Thanks, I have eggs comming Tues, so I want to have everything ready.

What altitude are you at? If you're at a higher elevation, you may elect to keep the plugs out. I'm in Denver - arid and high altitude. I have 2 Genesis 1588 - one for incubating, and one for hatching. I don't use the plugs.

As long as we're talking about 1588's, has anyone ever adjusted the thermostat? I have a Brinsea Spot Check that is showing both of mine running a little warm, say 100.1 to 100-3. That may be why all of my hatches are early ones, too. Just wondering if anyone else has done this?

I've never adjusted mine. The thermometers read 99.5 to 100.5. I've had some hatch a day early; some a day late. What's more frustrating to me is the time from pip to zip to hatch. Some do it all within 2 hours; some take over 24 hours from pip to hatch.

I agree...that is also frustrating to me. I'm a beginner hatcher so I'm learning from everyone on this site and from trial and error. Maybe it has something to do with different size eggs in the same hatch. Or the "age" of the egg...how long it was stored before incubation. I dunno....
