I don't have a bator or a broody, why do I always go to the hatching eggs auction and get all worked up over the pretty eggies I want!?! There are so many auctions I want to win, and I have no way to hatch eggs.

And then, since I can't hatch eggs right now, I start going to all the hatchery websites, putting chick orders in the shopping cart and then closing the window before I hit submit. I've got OEGB chicks coming this next week from Ideal, and that should cure my chick fever, shouldn't it? I'm dying here!

Is anyone else in my shoes, or am I all alone in this illness/obsession? It's ridiculous!

I want chicks!

Oh lordy, no, you are NOT alone!

Now, it is true I have incubators, but I do NOT need to keep all of them full all of the time. But back before I had an incubator, I lurked in the incubation forum - I don't know why! - and I STILL fill online hatchery shopping baskets and exit out before ordering.

I bought an incubator and didn't know why. I mean, all I read in the incubation threads were posts of anxiety and poor hatch rates and shrink-wrapped chicks and all that bother. Who would want to do THAT?

And then I WON an egg auction which I bid upon purely by .... covetousness. But nobody bid after me!

And so it started.

I'm gonna go take a break in the brooder room (my only bathroom) and admire my latest hatchlings.

I may be getting a touch of it myself

I keep reading all the hatching contests and hatch-alongs and then reading the auctions and re-reading the chicken swap info (it's not until April!!) and knowing I really need to think about whether I can even get more chicks (what do people do with all the chicks they are hatching?? Surely they can't all have flocks of a hundred or more??) Sigh... I only started with chickens last April... and now I want a whole flock!

I guess chickens are contagious!

We started with none and now have over 50. Big flocks aren't any harder to take care of than little ones, as long as they have a lot of room... they just eat more.

I don't know why we ended up with so many... guess I can't say no, and our 'bator's full!!!

Like the OP. I don't have a bator. I keep staring at eggs I want in incubate. I go to breeder site and look at the eggs I want. I was at the feed store 2 days ago. And it took all my power not to buy 2 chicks. I am supposed to be going on my honeymoon in 3 weeks. Who is going to watch these chicks if I get them. So no... I am restraining.... but barely. I think the DH is dreading the moment I order a new inc. He knows the I will be going egg crazy.....
