Well, I can hardly believe it but we have successfully hatched our first Pea Chick that came from our three year old India Blues!!!
Nothing went smoothly of course! He took forever to hatch and so I had to help out
I know that it is considered a No-no, but couldn't stand by and do nothing. The membrane had dried out on the egg and he couldn't push the shell all the way open. So, I sterilized a spoon handle and wet it and gently did a tiny amount of prying..... then POP, he pushed the top of the egg open!
He also had his feet balled up into fists, so he couldn't stand up. Well, after trying the "shoes" off the UPA website...... they failed because the tape wouldn't hold...... this morning he has managed to stand and walk all on his own.
We are sooooo proud!
No sign of hatch from the other egg that was due to hatch with him, but we also have four due to hatch on July 2nd, so we will see. I really don't care, in my opinion it was a huge success!!!
Because of his foot problems we named him Forrest
Here are a few pics!
And here he is today on Day 2
