Sudden Death Rooster!

Our beautiful Barnevelder Roo keeled over this afternoon!!
Im devestated we only had him about 4 weeks! The girls are all just fine and he was perfectly fine this morning running about doing his thing with the girls, i came home later to find he was not interested in his food just sitting in the corner of a shed not moving i put food and water near him and when i came back around 30mins later he was dead! he had some chalky markings on his comb and when i first discovered him ill his comb had partially a dark blue colour?? it was very quick im thinking he has eaten something he shouldnt have and has poisoned himself?? any other theories??

Hard to tell when they die so quickly

Dark comb.. indicates he may have had a heart problem, and he died from heart failure.. also called sudden death syndrome in chickens

But your right ... it may well have been that he got into something that poisoned him...

Anything in your yard that he could have been pecking at, open cartons, boxes, packets, anything spilt on the ground, compost heap, snail pellets, cement powder, anything?

im so sorry you lost your roo. If he was " doing his thing" with the girls...might be time to get a few of those eggs, and incubate them...maybe get his son!
