Hi folks. My wee bantam died very suddenly yesterday. I discovered her when I came home from work to find her dead. She was absolutely fine so it's a bit of a mystery to me as to how she died so suddenly. No signs of ill health. Her vent had clearly experienced a trauma. It was badly damaged. I have 4 other hens, so am concerned as to possible cause of death as I do not want my other birds affected by this. All birds appear healthy. Any thoughts / similar experiences out there? Much appreciated

Could her vent have been pecked by her susters? Could she have passed a double yolker and split her vent? (not sure if this is a real thing). Could she have passed an egg with broken shell? Another thought if fly strike, but I think there would be maggots still after death.
So sorry.
