I have had 2 Chickens that started sitting on their bottoms alot and then they lasted about a week before dieing. I got them at the same time from the same place. Since they were both Ameraucaunas I was wondering if any one has any knowlege of this.

Lots of reasons a chicken will just sit down before death. Usually what ever is ailing them makes the too weak to stand. Could have been worms, egg binding, some virus or bacteria, mites, etc...The only way to truly know is to have a necropsy done on them right after death. I would give the rest of your flock a good once over to make sure they are not suffering from something obvious.

Thanks for the condolences. I had de-wormed, and they took about a week to pass away. The most recent seemed to be improving and then gone. Unfortunately we weren't able to take either one to be posted in time. They hadn't started laying yet and I couldn't feel any eggs in the vent.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry for your losses.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. Sorry for the loss of your chicks. Please feel free to ask if you have any more questions. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

I didn't run a stool sample before treating, but it won't cause sudden death. I just used a feed additive I don't think she ate much of it anyway.
