I got my first egg in August from one of my salmon faverolles. 8 out of 9 hens are laying and I usually get at least 5 eggs a day, if not 7-8. I have multiple breeds in my flock (see signature below) that are all pretty good layers. One of my faverolles, my andalusian, and at least one of my easter eggers (usually both) lay daily and one of my white marans, and my other faverolle lay every other day. The rest usually lay at least 3 a week.
Last weekend, I was gone in Wisconsin. I had a friend taking care of them but she forgot that she had to close the run door at night so they were free range the entire weekend where as usually they are only free range from 3 PM to 7 PM. That was okay, because they were all okay and there were no predator attacks (thank god) but I believe they got into a new cycle and started laying somewhere in our 5 acre woods. I suspect they are laying in the section of woods between my house and the neighbors. There is no access to that point because there are no trails and I don't want to walk through the thorny bushes so I'm not even gonna bother with finding them. I have been trying to keep them contained for the last couple days so they lay in the coop, but I'm a sucker for their sweet faces standing at the gate and asking to be let out so I always give in around 6 PM (they go back to bed at 7 so it's only an hour). But I've still only been getting 2-3 eggs a day.
It is Fall now and the temperature has been in the 50s-70s the past week, could that have anything to do with it? None of them are currently broody and no one is molting.
