One of our ducks and one of our chickens (both about a year old and daily egg layers) have suddenly started laying small eggs. What's going on?

Anyone have any suggestions/comments? So far we have another little egg "0" of responses

Wierd! No idea what could cause that. strange that it's both birds. Mine sometimes lay funny shaped ones.. I got a spotty LOOOOOng one today... do they look the same inside? yolks present? How much smaller? can you post before/after pix?

Any changes been going on??? Big change in weather, food, flock additions???? Mine lay such different egg sizes daily, that I pay little attention (mine have only been laying about 6 weeks). I would think changes in their enviroment could effect different aspects of egg laying...from frequency to size. Protein intake the same? I'm just throwing out ideas, because I don't know...lol.

You might try giving them a bit more protein. It's been a hard, cold winter and no bugs have survived up here. Even though mine get Flock Raiser, 20% protein, I still gave them a small bit of hamburger a couple times per week during the extreme cold. Now that there's a few worms about, I'm only giving them the meat once a week. They are laying nice sized eggs.

It happens. my chicken laid an egg yesterday that closely resembled a bird egg, but. She gets anough food (wow, that would be an exaggeration. she's the fattest chicken alive) and no change in habits so I guess maybe some days they lay small and some days not.
