Flock: 5 hens (2 RI Reds, 1 Delaware (white), 1 Ameraucana (Black), 1 mix Ameraucana (gray))
Age: 1yr 6mos (all)
Ameraucana (black) is sick...she's generally very "chatty"
Today: All 5 girls came out of the coop this morning looking just fine. About 2hrs later I couldn't find the black one...she was standing alone (under my truck). Typically I can pick her up with a minor amount of resistance--today I picked her up with no resistance.
Background: Of the 5 hens, the black one has been broody 3 times, but is not currently broody. Lays light-blue egg regularly..amost daily. While broody, she plucks her belly feathers, so her feathers are thin in that area. I usually break her from the broody (takes about 3 days); then she doesn't lay for another 10 days ish. She's always the chatty-est hen. She is not bullied; she can hold her own and doesn't get pushed around. She has looked sort of raggedy (disheveled) for about a month; I just figured she's nearing time to molt, as well as recovering from broody.
SICK: Very lethargic. I haven't noticed her poop (the gray had coccidiosis last year and her poop was bright green and runny). When I picked her up today, she was very weak and didn't resist.
TREATMENT: Suspecting coccidiosis so I administered a direct-in-mouth dose of CORID (less than 1mil). She didn't fight me opening her mouth and I slowly drizzled the very tiny amount directly. I prepared a gallon of water mix with CORID (a little less than 2 tsps). I have isolated her with the water and some feed.
ANY THOUGHTS APPRECIATED! --dan
