My adult flock has been eating layer feed for more than 2 years, from the time I switched them over from starter. There's always been very little waste.

Suddenly this winter they are wasting a ton of their pellets. The floor under their feeder piled high with pellets. Same feeder (hanging), same location.

Any ideas about why there's this sudden waste?

If you didn't change brands, then maybe a bad bag of feed. They might be billing through it looking for good feed.

X2 or maybe a cross-beaked bird or possibly boredom if they've been confined to the coop more then usual because of the crummy weather...Silly birds! Seems like just when you think you have it figured out they have to throw you a curve. Ornery little fuzzy butts are even worse then my teen-age daughter when it comes to finding new ways to make me crazy.
