I Put some berry suet in their run and they love it. Thought it would help them stay warm chilly nights. Can the fat harm them? No ill effects after 5 days.
 
No it wont harm them ,but might give them the poops. Corn is the one of the best sources of fat for warmth. And corn is much cheaper.
 
"Chicken Scratch" - you should be able to get it where you get your other feed - don't be too generous with it; it is a treat. (not recommended in 'chicken treat' list for hot weather use - see list this site...)

i put suet in the holder out in the runs in the winter, gives them something to do as well.
i was told that its good to give when they are molting as well, i have never had any ill effects.
