Suggestions/Help/ Outside the Pen

When I had chickens, way back then, my chickens had a difficult time find their way back into the pen at night. Had to herd them in till they could find the entrance. I want to let my 3 out of the pen today. Even if its for an hour. Of course I will stay with them and they do know that their coop is safe. I have a fenced yard and they are too little to fly up over the wooden 6 ft fence. My question is, "Is there a simple way to teach them where the pen door is"? lol I can see myself trying to herd them to the door and thats no fun. My chickens I had long ago would spend over an hour looking in the fenced area for an opening

Try standing just inside the door, and toss small amounts of a treat, like cracked corn, or BOSS where they can see it, and then just into the doorway, etc...
