hello guys, am elton from kenya and am raising pekin bantams, am worried cause my hen has reached 12 eggs to lay but i dont when it will become broody, any hopes for her to become broody

Hi Elton, na Karibu sana from Nairobi - . Broodiness is usually a gradual process - characterised by sitting on the nest for increasingly longer periods of time when laying, puffing up her feathers if you approach and generally being grumpy. You will know when she is fully broody once she stays on the nest overnight rather than roosting (I usually let mine sit for two nights before setting eggs).

On a different note, I'm looking for araucanas at the moment and they only seem to be available on the coast (and some of dubious quality). If you are upcountry or know of any good quality sources anywhere in Kenya, I be most grateful.

All the best
