That's right, but it might discourage coyptes, or large catsThat won't do much if a raccoon comes along and simply lifts it open. Or a weasel strolls in.

You've been lucky. It's just one of those things where there's no middle ground. It works until one day it doesn't work, and you wake up to your whole flock gone...Alright, sorry. Just suggesting what's worked for me so far.
