Got my first pure bred chicken today after buying mixed breed I got a black star. Love the stuff I been reading on them yay

That's exciting! A black star is a hybrid breed though, more specifically one with a sex link characteristic. Technically it is a mix of two different breeds to get the sex link trait. They are definitely good egg layers though and one of my favorite of the sex-links!

umm lol so what does that mean as sex link? Bad good don't matter?

There's nothing wrong with having a sex link chicken, they are super egg layers and I've found ours to be some of the friendliest chickens we have. With sex link chicks, you know right away if you're looking at a male or a female because they have different coloring...that's a very good thing for people that don't want a rooster.

Whether they are "good" or "bad" depends on what you want them for. If you want lots of eggs, they are great. If you want to show them, you may not be able to because they are not recognized as a true breed. They are the offspring from two different breeds, making them a hybrid.

They are quite popular and people seem very pleased with them. They do their best laying for the first two years or so and then it drops off.

She has been great I had her 5 days now and she started playing yesterday and again today... My 3 mixed hens still not doing nothing
