Every morning I rake the sand and dump the dustpan onto a 1/4" welded wire screen I built, then carry the poop on the screen to the compost. Takes five minutes, including wiping down the roost and shelf.

But sometimes before they roost at night, I lean over the half wall and rake the day's poop onto this smaller screen my husband made from an aluminum dog pooper scooper. I don't even have to open or enter the pen for this quick, 30 second pick up.
He cut out the middle with a cutoff saw and riveted on 1/4" welded wire. For extra strength, he cut a strip from the discarded center as the front bar.

It works so well and easily that I might just use this one instead of the framed screen I built!

Now, if only I could train the dog, not only to guard the chickens, but....

Beautiful coop! 🥰
Thanks! That part is just the sleeping inside coop; the outside covered run is through a little chicken door. I shared it here, my first post to BYC : https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/my-favorite-chicken-house-ever.1468454/#post-24462636
I've made improvements since then, mostly with more ventilation (and curtains!) It looks like this today. The other picture shows my much younger pullets flying from roost to half wall for pets every morning.

Your coop is so clean and white!! I had an idea like what you made but just fastening some chicken/hardware wire to one of my plastic pitch forks I use to clean out the horses stalls. I haven't tried it yet...

I've seen pictures of wire cloth on pitchforks--looks like a great idea! Pitchforking would be a different action and body posture than pooper scooping, of course. I once had a barn shovel full of holes, made for sifting, which I used like a pitchfork to clean the goat pen.
About the cleanliness, I'm only able to keep it that clean because of the narrow design. All my large chicken pens before this one had unpainted roosts and ladders crusted with chicken poop. In fact, my outdoor coop roost is painted blue to match the barn and roof. I have to put on knee pads and crawl to rake the outdoor coop once a week, and I never wipe that roost!
But keeping the indoor one clean is so easy! I don't even have to enter the pen except to dustpan onto the screen and carry it out. I rake and clean the roosts by leaning over the half wall. My routine is I turn on the lights to wake everyone, lift the lid and pet the chickens that hop to greet me. Then when they have all gone outside, I squirt the roost and shelf with a squirt bottle, and then rake poop into a pile. Then I enter the pen and dustpan it onto the framed flat screen (not scooper--that's for quick evening pickup) and carry it out, then close the pen--takes about 5 minutes. Then I wipe the roost and shelf clean, taking about 1-2 minutes. Once in awhile I use disinfectant.
Since it only takes a few minutes to put another coat of paint on the roost and shelf, I do that about once a month. Every few months I re-coat the walls when they need perking up, which only takes about 20 minutes.
The only thing I worry about is the outgassing of the paint. I guess I should use crib paint or something.
