Supermarket quail egg hatches

Thats really weird as I broke a supermarket chicken egg last week and said to my husband that ones fertile, centre of the yolk was a clear 1.5mm dot which I have been told means the egg is fertile right? Im in hampshire atm, but I was born a Surrey lass!

Ya the white dot is one way. Theres a thread here somewhere about lookin for the "bullseye".. mainly chicken egg thread but i spotted it in ky cots eggs.

I dunno about there but here in the USA generally anyone raising lots of any layer bird doesnt keep a roo, or at least only with certian breeding hens not the whole flock. Course i guess it could be someone found a late bloomer roo that was still with the hens.. some error.. But geez the odds that the one egg she put in the bator would be that one in a million fertile store egg! And that it would hatch out fine and live!

Thats why I found it so weird, Surrey has plenty of farms and like the USA I have never heard of roos being with the flock although I do know it can be common practice to have one or two to be bred with the best layers for the next gen of layers so maybe thats what happened with the chicken egg I cracked, but thats why I found it odd that it was same week as the quail egg story as I have never heard of it. The farmers I know would all be pretty careful after breeding for the next gen to wait for unfertile eggs before putting back with the flock as it can cause a bit of drama if people think the eggs are fertile (doesnt bother me but as sometimes we would have to bottle feed the lambs that would eventually be served as sunday roast a fertile egg is hardly a problem!

I worked at a layer breeder farm here in BC Canada. Its was a free range breeder egg farm. White leghorns and brown. When they had to many breeder eggs for the hatcherys the eggs would go the stores to be eaten. Thats why you'll see some fertile some not.
