In the Brooder
I've got 6 chicks in an outside brooder - they are ~3 weeks old. It hits mid-high 90's during the day but down to mid-low 70's at night. I plug the heat lamp in before going to bed and unplug it at sunrise. At what point should they be fine without supplemental heat at night?
The brooder is ~4x8 made of 2x2's and chicken wire (completely enclosed). I'd like to move it to inside the run for the rest of my chickens; they wouldn't have direct interaction with the adults...it's just more out of the way and more convenient to check on all chickens at once, but I can't get electricity to run a heat lamp that far. It's "annoying" but not annoying enough to spend the money on a longer extension cord.
