I've got 6 chicks in an outside brooder - they are ~3 weeks old. It hits mid-high 90's during the day but down to mid-low 70's at night. I plug the heat lamp in before going to bed and unplug it at sunrise. At what point should they be fine without supplemental heat at night?

The brooder is ~4x8 made of 2x2's and chicken wire (completely enclosed). I'd like to move it to inside the run for the rest of my chickens; they wouldn't have direct interaction with the adults...it's just more out of the way and more convenient to check on all chickens at once, but I can't get electricity to run a heat lamp that far. It's "annoying" but not annoying enough to spend the money on a longer extension cord.

If they are close to fully feathered and in an area with no drafts or wind then you can stop giving them heat. For the first night without heat I would check on them once a little bit after dark to make sure they aren't cold but they should be ok.
