Supposed to be Black Copper Marans but.......

This little guy is about 9 weeks old. I got him with 9 other Black Copper Marans chicks. All of the others are starting to get their copper coloring in, but this little fella looks nothing like a Black Copper Marans. He looked just like the others until about 2 weeks ago. What happened to him?

Well, the mother of that young roo must have had a visit from something other than a BC Maran.

You won't use him in your breeding program!

Guess you can rehome or send to freezer camp in the next two months.

To me he kinda looks like a Cuckoo Maran but i wouldnt put it in a breeding program if it is a female you can keep it for eggs i guess. Sorry on what happened.

He looks nothing like a Cuckoo Marans. I have a whole flock of those and babies at all different ages. I know that BC can throwback a wheaten gene so I was thinking more on that line, but it still doesn't really explain the cute white ears. I hatched the egg myself. It was a 7 on the color chart and the person I got them from has no other flocks than BC Marans. That is what is so perplexing.

BCM is golden BIRCHEN.This bird is silver birchen.Bev Devis has line of Silver Birchens.White ears are from white feathers That is not the same like white earlobes in Leghorns.Earlobes are white fleshy things.I vote for Silver Birchen Marans boy
