Suprise Mom: we got some chickens!

I've been wanting chickens for a long time, lo and behold my husband and son picked up six little chicks while I was out of town! So I'm very excited, but feel so clueless! Wish me luck!

yes, great suprise, but I have a feeling all the work is going to fall on Mom! Thank Goodness I found this site, you're talking about a Jersey Girl in vermont who really has no idea what to do with these cute little buggers! I need to build a coop on a budget and while I know we will all love tending to our chickens, I'm a bit nervous being thrown into this!

ah...thanks for the welcomes! Funny you ask what type..I said to my husband what kind are they? I don't think he knows. 3 are all white and 3 are all black. I need to make my way to the farm store and figure that out! Fortunatly for me, my sons thoughful teacher had him bring home a wonderful book on raising chickens, and in addition to this website it's given me a wealth of knowledge!
