surgery today- Ruthie is gone.

Only just seen this thread, I am so sorry, what a wonderful person you are, it seems little Ruthie just had too much going on and there was no solution for her..... Big hug to you

So sorry to learn about Ruthie.......U did your best for her! Thank you for sharing your story, it just might help someone else along the way! my condolences......~Beulah

Thank you all very much. I appreciate it. Of course, I feel terrible- I knew there was a chance of this happening....but she just seemed so good and strong. I really did think she would make it.

If I could do it again I might have given her a few more weeks to get stronger before putting her under. The vet I went with seemed concerned that if we didn't do it soon she might have an intestine strangulate, but the first vet I talked to wanted to give her a few more weeks of growth before surgery. I could have kept monitoring her closely to make sure things were moving through her little GI tract....of course, that may have not changed anything.

It's the hardest thing, that we have to make the life and death decisions for our animals.

Andrea, it sounds as if something else was going on with her, and she likely wouldn't have made it to adulthood if you hadn't intervened. And, as far as making those kinds of decisions - I look at it as a blessing that we are able to do so! If this had turned out well, I'm certain that chick would not have made it at all without intervention. She probably had a 50/50 chance, but if you hadn't attempted this, her chances, I'm sure, would have been much, much less to survive.

You're exactly right Wynette, it is a blessing. Thanks for pointing that out....and thank you again for being so supportive through this. I have a hard time having a good attitude and perspective about these things. It just seems so darn cruel- BUT it is what it is, and you're right, she probably wouldn't have made it either way.

Awe...chin up - you have other critters that need you!
