Okay I put these ducks eggs on a whim in my Brinsea incubator. I candled them a couple of weeks ago and all but one seemed dead. So I put that egg back in and forgot about it. Well tonight I was cleaning out the incubators and low and behold there is a duck! I have no idea how to brood her. Can she go in with baby chicks? I am so worried she will die. Help!!

PS she hates being in the brooder. She just quacks at me to get out. When I hold her she nuzzles in my hair. Plus she is not eating or drinking yet. Should we worry?

You have several hours before worrying about food and water.

Ducklings do need company, but she will grow faster than the chicks. You could possibly divide the brooder with some plastic poultry fence so she can see the others, anyway.

A number of people put a stuffed toy and unbreakable mirror in the brooder with a single duckling until they can get a friend or two.
