My bantam cochin hen went broody, so I put a couple eggs under her from my mixed pen. The roosters hadn't been in there very long, so I didn't think any of the eggs were fertile. Much to my surprise, I heard peeping from under her last night and found an adorable little chick this morning!

I'm curious who the parents are, though.

Possible mamas: Golden Laced Wyandotte, Australorp, Buff Orpington

Possible daddies: Light Brahma, Golden Laced Cochin

Here's a couple of photos, what do you think?

If the leg feathering is light and only on the outside of the legs, then I would say daddy is the brahma. Heavier feathering, my guess would be daddy is the cochin. From the pics, the feathering looks pretty sparse?

Australorp was def the mommy

And im gonna guess Brahma was daddy because the chick has a brahma body structure and the feather feet is light ...

But IMO its also looking like a baby boy

.. dont know if thats bad or good news for you ??

Hmmm.....what makes you think boy? He/she is less than 24 hours old.......

Also, I was REALLY surprised when I walked back out this evening to find 2 more of the eggs had hatched! These 2 have chipmunk-like striping, so I'm thinking my golden laced wyandottes are the moms of those 2. Haven't been able to check the legs yet.

What type of comb does it have? A rose comb would suggest that either the SLW was the mother, or the brahma was the father.

I would also like to know comb type

I was actually thinking GLW X Lt Brahma, the slight *patterning* on the head, but the color is that of the australorp
my final answer is australorp x lt brahma but reserve the right to change my answer after knowing comb type
