Hello!

I came home yesterday to someone crowing in my coop. Come to find that my neighbor's made good on their "threat" to randomly gift me a rooster (this was a welcome threat, I just had no idea they were serious!). I how have this somewhat skittish, but GORGEOUS boy.

No idea about age, I need to ask them for his history, but before I ask THEM what breed he is I was wondering if anyone wanted to take any guesses?

Also, mostly, I just wanted to show off this pretty boy. LOOK HOW PRETTY. He's already exhibited some wing-dancing and tidbitting, so I'm hopeful he'll be a good boy. The girls are currently Not. Impressed. At. All... poor boy.

Haha, the best kind of rooster is one the neighbors can't complain about, right? They have a flock of their own (boys and girls), so I think this gentleman was an "extra" of theirs. I'll gladly adopt him into my flock, I was just so surprised! No idea how to thank them.

And as typical, I'm head over heels for him, but the feeling is not mutual and he'd rather keep his distance from me. He'll learn I'm not a predator, eventually (I hope).

It's really nice to see someone get a surprise rooster they actually wanted! He's beautiful!
I'm way more smitten with him than my hens are, currently. I keep looking at all the videos I was taking of him yesterday.

He's my first roo, I've been wanting one since we moved out to the country, and actually have chicks under a hen right now to expand the flock out to 12 ladies. The neighbors knew all this, and took advantage. No complaints here! (Well, my fiance might have a complaint about random animals showing up... but he's accepting this one as inevitable.)

I think not making a pet out of a rooster is what most folks recommend. He doesn't have to be a lap sitter- he just needs to respect humans and not be aggressive towards them.

He is a beautiful EE, maybe your older hens will teach him how to please .
Yep, agree. The fact that he is a bit skittish around people is a very good sign because those are less likely to become aggressive than the ones that are not afraid of people.

That is one handsome rooster, too. Your hens will warm up to him but it can take a while.
