Surprise Rooster

After a weekend of roo-watching, I can say that he's gaining some confidence and swear my barred rock has fallen head over heels. I caught them preening next to each other in the coop.

Another Hen, Attila the hen, seems to go out of her way to chase and peck him. She wasn't the top hen, so her reaction surprises me a little.

I think not making a pet out of a rooster is what most folks recommend. He doesn't have to be a lap sitter- he just needs to respect humans and not be aggressive towards them.

He is a beautiful EE, maybe your older hens will teach him how to please .

Oh yeah, I don't need a lap roo, but right now he is SO terrified of me that when I'm entering the coop or run area he almost knocks everything over trying to flee. I'd like him to just recognize that I'm not a threat. He's gotten calmer over the last few days, doesn't hurt (probably) that I've increased the treats the ladies are getting so he's witnessing that THEY all like me.
