Loads of chickens here as I breed for color and feathering. From time to time, I have a hen who successfully hides and incubates some eggs that I do not know about.

Since I also create a chicken-themed calendar each year - for family and friends, one of her chicks gives me an opportunity to combine it with some fall blooms from the garden. So it will be a good stock photo that might appear on a future calendar as the one for 2019 has already been printed.

Just wanted to share this surprise with you as you also may experience unpredictable events with your fowl also.

Thank you for the wonderful comments - they are truly appreciated.

Well...the saga continues and the individual surprise additions now total four! However I know there are more to come. The broody hen is accepting them all as they hatch which sometimes can be a challenge.

Here is #3: Just like we did as children, he gets to romp in a pile of brightly colored autumn leaves! The brilliant magenta berries are from a Beauty Berry Bush (Callicarpa) and the foreground golden flowers are Sternbergia - it is nice to have these crocus-like flowers that bloom in the fall. Like crocus, they also grow from bulbs.
