Surrogate mothers

Looking for some surrogate brooder hens for a free range flock. What breed or lines would you recommend? Would like a broody line of EE's or something with a distinct eggs if possible.

Hatchery silkies and cochins seem to brood well. Game hens have a fantastic reputation as broodies, but I don't know if the hatchery girls are as good or not.
