we received these 4 little guys from a friend who said they were guinea hens, and at or near adult size. but compared to the photos I've seen of guinea hens, these guys are really different!
are they super-ultra-mini bantams? some other kind of fowl? will they stay this little and cute?
I'd love any help!
they're all about 1 foot in length. they're pictured with my 6-month old white leghorns for size comparison.
thank you!
alison. (in pennsylvania)

Um...guineas are a completely different species! lol!

Those are bantam birds. From the look of it all are female. Also they look like Dutch Bantams and OEG bantams.

They look like Bantam Old English Game to me! And they are so cute, I love the little buff colored one!

Since we're on the topic of guineas being misidentified... At my last job we sold chicks. One of my coworkers told a customer that guineas did not lay eggs!

I asked if they were endangered, she didn't think it was funny.

thanks, everyone, and thanks for the warm welcome!
maybe the person said "mini" rather than guinea? I don't know. it was probably like a game of telephone.
when I looked up "guinea hens" I thought I was going crazy - but I figured there might be some obscure species that I didn't know about.
thanks for affirming that these guys (girls) are chickens after all.

so, the one with black feet (dubbed "ugly" becuz she's so cute) is probly a dutch bantam, and the others are probly old english bantams? is that right?

any tips for keeping the leghorns from bullying them? they seem a little terrified, most of the time.
alison, proud bantie parent.
