Saw some of these for sale, thought it rather odd.
Almost looks like silkie feathering.
Is it a 'defect' or 'desirable'?

Ooops!!
Had wrong breed in title...
...so changed it from Ayam Cemani to Svart Hona.
Sorry about that!

Did they post any pictures of it that you can share?

I would think it would be considered a defect. A big one.

But I also think that ACs are there just for the eye candy so maybe someone crossed a pure black silkie with an AC to produce a fluffy AC hoping they'd struck upon a commodity that would earn them some bucks. :idunno

They did post pics but I'm not comfortable sharing them.
They did say it was a recessive thing that they had been waiting to show up(lemonade?).

I was also thinking that silkie may be part of the black aspect and the fluffy featherage hangs about in the background...but I do not know enough about the melanistic(that's not the right word) birds.

Fibromelanistic is what your looking for. i breed Svart Hona and they havent been admitted to the SOP so fault or not is yet to be spoken. Still i wouldnt bring it to a show over my smooth birds even in an undefined category. I wouldnt breed a bird with a silkie or anything and call them Hona so id think theyd wanna personalize its name if they went for a new line. Haven't seen that trait pop up in 4 yrs with them or ever heard of that even as a super reccesive trait, maybe its the product of super inbreeding?

I have no idea what they're doing.
They have a bunch of breeds from Greenfire(I think),
hatch a LOT of chicks and ship them all over.
I bought some CCL from them, not the greatest birds and they say they are now having trouble hatching them..as did I.
