Hi all,
Thank you for letting me join! I have repeatedly ended up on backyardchickens.com when searching for info and found your community one of the most helpful and respectful ones out there. I’m glad to be part of it now!
I’m living in a suburban house right outside Gothenburg in Sweden. I hatched my first chickens (mutts) in April this year. I have been ‘mum‘ to a bunch of quails since Covid hit and I grew up on the countryside having ‘my own hen’. Nevertheless, I actually never thought much about chicken behavior or care back then, and quails are nothing like hens, so I consider my self a noob. I would like to ‘build’ a small flock that is as nice and quiet as can be (not far to the neighbours’). I have 4 hens (not laying yet) and 2 cockerels at the moment. I’d love to keep a roo, but we’ll have to see how the soon to be chosen keeper works out. They’re only 15 weeks at the moment (one crowing and one sounding somewhat like a dog’s toy). If everything works out I’d like to add 2 or 3 hens next year as well, reaching the maximum number I see fit for my garden set up. Fingers crossed I can thank my neighbours for their patience with some nice eggs shortly.
All the best!
