Howdy everyone!
I woke up this morning and realized that I often have dreams about chickens. That pretty much proves my Gallus Domesticus Addiction. So listen up all of you other chicken addicts! I want to hear about any chickeny dreams that you may have had. Dreams about getting chicks, dreams about eggs, dreams about anything chicken. Maybe, if we get a lot of dreamers on here, we can turn it into a contest. So come on in and share your sweet chickeny dreams!
Here is a chickeny dream that I had last night.
It was a dark and windy summer day. Deep gray clouds crowded the sky, blocking out all light. I pulled up to my rural house, pushing hard against the car door to get out into the wind. I have no idea what I had been doing, but in the passengers seat sat our Partridge Rock hen, Rusty. She was fluffed up inside a small wooden nestbox. I walked around to her door and opened it like any good chicken chauffeur should. She flapped over my head and ran off in the direction of the chicken coop. She knew the path as well as the back of her foot so I let her go on her own while I tended to her nestbox. I tidied up the straw and wood chips and I was just about to take the nestbox to the shed for storage when I heard a tiny "peep". Three tiny, fluffy, pale yellow polish chicks were huddled in the pile of soft straw, cheeping for their mother. I scooped up the little darlings and hurried over to the chicken coop, carefully shielding them from the chill of the wind. I stepped in through the human door and went to the nestboxes. Rusty was sitting in one already, making frantic "broody noises". I gently lifted her and put the three polishes in the safety of her down. Then things started to get complicated. I stepped back outside and saw my younger sister running toward me. A brilliant flash of lightning sliced the sky, and I just barely caught sight of a bunch of tiny white shapes fluttering toward a tree by the coop. They were more of Rusty's chicks, about thirty of them! I told my sister to get them down and then I walked behind the coop. Four big brooder boxes that had not been there before were set in the dry grasses. Each box had red wood siding, food, water, clean bedding, heat, light, and was about 3 by 5 ft. I peeked into one of them and saw Rusty with her three original chicks, plus twenty more. They were everywhere! Chicks were flapping around in the trees, sneaking around in the grass, and harassing the other grown chickens. I knelt down and began picking up the swarming chicks to put them in with their mother. My three younger sisters came, bringing hundreds of chicks with them every time. My parents came out, too. My dad didn't say anything but my mom was ranting about too many chickens.
"What are we going to do with them all!"
And then I woke up with the terrible thought that we couldn't keep all of the chicks. There you have it, folks. The dream of how my coop was under siege by 500 baby polishes.
Hope you enjoyed reading my dream! Now I want to hear yours. Please share!
