I have three broody hens. I was taking the eggs at first but decided to give the first two eggs. I have them at the same time and then a week or so later another hen went broody. So my first two girls have been sitting for 4+ weeks. I’m really not sure how long but the third girl hasn’t been sitting a full 3 weeks. The first two sets of eggs were due this weekend but started hatching today. This is also my first time letting them hatch in the flock. These three girls are in my main nesting boxes but there are plenty of other boxes around. Once I realized they were hatching I tried to block off the coop so the girls wouldn’t be disturbed. When I came back later to check one of the mamas who has been sitting the longest was off the nest and the shortest one was on her eggs and someone who snuck in was on the youngest nest. So when the mama was done with her break she went on the nest that still has a week to a week and a half (has the most eggs and she’s done this several times during the sitting process). She’s also the most protective of her eggs so I didn’t try to move her but now one of her eggs hatched under the other hen who hasn’t been sitting as long and I don’t know what to do. I’d hate to take the chick from her. She’s being such a good mama but I feel bad for the other hen. Plus I don’t want her to sit that long knowing how hard it is on their bodies. As I’m typing this she just got up again. So I also worry about her getting up like she is that she’s not gonna be a good mama. Or could she tell that her new eggs need more time so she’s taking advantage and getting up while she can. She was sitting very diligently at first. Sorry this was so long but anyone know what I should do?

She is the black one in the photos looking a bit upset that everyone’s eggs are hatching but hers.

Leave the chicks under whichever hen they hatched under. Other hens may kill any chicks that weren't hatched under them. Those last few days chicks peep, and hens talk back, so bonding begins before the hatch. If the one hen is a good mom, I'd just leave the chicks with her.
