I've seen various recommendations on what age I should switch the girls over from chick starter to a grower/developer ration. Some say 4 weeks. Others say 6 weeks. And still others say 8 weeks. What do you guys typically do, and do you mix the two feeds for a bit to let their digestive tracts get used to the new food?

Many thanks.

I buy starter/grower I think it is 16% protine and switch to layer once they start laying. Could be as much as 6 months depending on the breed of chicken.

The layer has too much calcium for them when they are not laying.

I wish I had an answer for you but I actually signed in planning to post the same question! I have 3 groups of ages and the oldest 4 are almost 6 weeks now. They're starting to look like chickens....but is it time to fatten them a little???

They are chunky chickens yet~! lol

Also, I know they start laying anywhere between 16 and 24 weeks depending on breed and maturity, but what age are they "grown"?
