Okay, I've read a lot about how easy it is for chicks to figure out how to use the poultry nipples, but mine seem to be having some trouble. They are all nearly two months old now so there's no way they're too small to figure it out. I'm wondering if they are not using them because the nipples are not high enough overhead, or if because I've left one regular waterer in there in case they can't get the hang of the other kind.

Is there some standard height for how high above a hen the nipples should be? Thanks for any feedback!

Take the other waterer out. As for the height, as long as they can reach them they'll use them. I have a broody mama using the chicks waterer by sticking her neck down to the floor! But you must take the other waterer out or they will always use that! I usually put it around back height, but with a variation in chick heights I just try to put it where everyone can get to it.

As I said above, I just had a broody hatch out chicks in the coop, put one of my waterers about 2 inches from the floor and right after the chicks came out from under mama she had them drinking. Give it a shot, tap on them a little and remove the other waterer. They'll get it.
