My hen a little over a year old..5 days ago wasn't acting herself, noticed she was favoring one of her legs, checked it and its fine. She didn't lay for 2 days so figured egg bound. I soaked her several times in water and tried feeling for an egg. Gave her some oil to help. Still no egg. She is swollen not directly below her vent but I guess it's her stomach, not really sure. It's not hard and I don't feel any lumps or hard spots, more mushy. It's been 5 days, she is eating and drinking some. Haven't left the coop and goes in and out of nesting box spending most of the time in the box. Sleeps on the roost at night. Moving around slow and can't jump up on the roost. I have read to get a syringe and try draining but I m just not sure if that is dangerous or not. I did get som Probiotics for the water and started that today. I have non stop tried to help not sure what else I can do. I did read about liver failure. She seems uncomfortable but doesn't seem to be in alot of pain yet. Every time I go check on her I m so nervous that she didnt make it. Any ideas or help will be appreciated.

Welcome to BYC! I'm glad you joined us! :) Try the "Emergencies/Diseases/Injuries and Cures" section.

She also may be swollen from cardiac problems. In either case please post in as much detail as possible in the ER section. The longer she goes like this, the less likely she will be to survive. Could you take her to a vet? Some conditions cannot be evaluated over the internet.
