My 8 month old Wilsomer hen looked like she had laid her first egg yesterday but when I went to check on it, I found that she was very lethargic and there was no egg. I lifted her out into the yard where she squeezed out what looked like yolk and mucus. She looked prolapsed and seemed to be having difficulty moving. This morning her condition had worsened and she is very swollen and red and there are visible clots. I called the feed store and the gentleman suggested that an egg had broken inside of her. He recommended cleaning her out with a turkey baster and mineral oil. I tried using both oil and then water to clean her out. Now she is back in the coop resting, but her rear looks terrible. It looks as though she is trying to pass another egg but is to inflamed to let it pass. The vets wont look at her and I was told that she may need to be euthanized. Can anyone offer me a suggestion as to what happened and what to do now?

Thank you.

She died. Very sad. She was so healthy two days ago.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I'm new to this and it's sad to see things turn so quickly.
