Hello all! I just noticed my 3 Plymouth Rocks (one barred and two buff) have seemingly swollen combs? I’m with them everyday and just noticed this a few hours ago. I don’t see any signs of injury from pecking.
All 3 chickens are almost 6 months old.
Eating and drinking,
Preening
Pooping normally
Foraging
Just wanted to see if this was a concern or not. Thanks for any help!

I can’t seem to find much info out there about swollen combs…. 🤷‍♀️

Have they started to lay eggs yet?
If they started laying, are they still laying? Or did they stop?

The barred rock just started about two weeks ago and laid one today. The lighter of the two buffs I think had just started and the darker buff hasn’t yet.

Combs get much bigger and redder when pullets reach laying age, so I think that's what you are noticing.

Combs stay big and red as long as the hens are laying, but when they stop laying (broody or molting), the combs get smaller and paler again.

Okay that’s great to know. Thank you so much for the information and your help! They all seem happy and healthy!
