Hey all. I hv a jersy black giant rooster that does have frost bite damage from our frigid Indiana weather but on top of that, his waddles are HUGE and swollen. Why and what do I need to do for him? He looks miserable. All my birds are in shelter, they have a heat lamp but its still a little drafty. Hes been fighting with my Drake.......Are the swoolen waddles a sign of sickness or damage from fighting?

to BYC!

Sourland has you set straight. Bag balm will help sooth the skin on the wattles. I like to use those small black tubs or dog bowls that are not filled up all the way so that when they drink the wattles are not getting dunked in the water and then freezing because they are wet.

Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!

This rooster has huge wattles. Honestly dont think there's a way for him to keep.them from getting in water. I will try bag balm.

My neighbor had this happen to his rooster a very long time ago, I don't remember what he did for it. But I remember he said it was because it had froze. BatamFan4Life has a good suggestion: ( emergency and diseases section ) I'm sorry this has happened, and hope your friend gets well.
