[Sycamore Hill Chicks]

Hi everyone! Some of my favorite threads are day to day flock stories so I thought I would start one myself. My family started keeping chickens over the first summer of the pandemic, though we were planning for them for about 1 year. We had a contractor build our coop and got our 4 chickens from a local service that raises them up to 8-12 weeks. They were around 9 weeks when we got them. For simplicity, we decided on all Buff Orpingtons and we could not be more happy with that desicion. Our girls are sweet, friendly, good layers, a little sassy, ok a lot sassy. Daisy

Pecking Order Rank: #1

Personality: Daisy is the boss of the flock. She is generally a very good leader, despite being bossy at times. She is a very friendly and tolerates being held. Daisy is the little Dino of the group, so if you are feeding her a treat, you better watch your fingers

Favorite Saying: Burk burp bwah

Eggs: She was the first to start laying, and continues to be very consistent. On average from her we get around 5 eggs a week. Her eggs are distinguished by there small size, light color, and almost roundness.

Hazel

Pecking Order Rank: #2

Personality: Hazel is a very sweet, laid back girl. She is big and gorgeous and seems to like being held. On the other side, she can definitely be sassy, especially when it comes to treats.

Favorite Saying: Brh brh burp


Eggs: Hazel’s eggs are HUGE!! They are a tan type color and long. She also lays around 5 eggs a week.

Kyla

Personality: Kyla has been a wild one since the start. She is much more skittish, but still very bold. As she’s gotten older, I can still pick her up like the others, and she seems to not even mind that. She is an independent woman who does things her way

Favorite Saying: Bwah Bwah Bwah BWAAH

Eggs: Kyla was the last to start laying, and lays darker brown or tan small round eggs. She is very very consistent, laying around 6 eggs a week.

Ginestra (Ginny)

Pecking Order Rank: #4

Personality: Ginny is at the bottom of the pecking order. But she still has it pretty good. Other than the other sometimes picking on her on the roosts or not sharing a treat, the other 3 all are very nice to her. She is very sweet, the smallest and is friendly despit not always wanting to be handled.

Favorite Saying: Brrup Brh Brh

Eggs: Ginny lays eggs similar to Daisy, medium sized and light colored. Hers often have little white speckles. She usually lays around 5 eggs a week.
