One of my girls was attacked by our neighbors dog. I’m not sure exactly what happened but I think she must of gotten on the fence(wings are clipped, doesn’t seem to matter) and the dog was able to pull her down. She is completely skinned on her back missing all the tail feathers. As far as I can tell it’s the dermal layer and the muscles aren’t affected. I do not think there are any other
I’ve isolated her into a quiet, indoor space. I’ve cleaned the area put neosporin on it and lightly covered it with a large bandaid. I’ve been giving her vitamin/electrolyte water. 10cc every 1 hour via syringe.
She has just been standing in her new space. I don’t think she’s drinking on her own although she has water. I have not given her any food. I also think she’s trying to get at the wound.
my questions are... is there anything I can do to help with the pain? How do I keep her from pecking the wound? I’ve read about the blue kote and the no peck spray but since the wound is so fresh it seems like it will hurt her more. How long should I expect the wound to take to heal? I imagine it will scab over same as us but I don’t know... when should I start offering her food?
this is my first time dealing with an injured girl any advice is helpful! Thanks
