Do you see any eye bubbles or foam in the eyes? I would make sure that her nostrils are clear, and you can take a look in her beak and roof of the beak for any debris or pus. I would offer some cottage cheese or plain Greek yogurt to see if the droppings get back to normal. Probiotics may help but may be in your feed.

She is still fast breathing like this and I am afraid it could be the end for her. She can't eat like this.

I see no bubbles and choanal slit looks empty. Should I swab it out anyway?

No, that might irritate her more. I would leave her alone for now. Is there good ventilation, and not too warm where she is now? I hope that she gets alright.

She just died. She coughed and seized so hard she flopped out of my lap so I held her and told her I loved her over and over.

I am so sorry that you lost her. It is very upsetting that she was having so much trouble breathing. You did everything you could have. If you plan to have a necropsy done by your state vet to get a diagnosis, her body would need to be kept cold, wrapped in 2 plastic bags, and refrigerated, but not freeze. Then on Monday, contact the state vet to either take the body in or to ship it overnight.

I feel like I need to know. I will call them tomorrow and maybe drive her over if it is allowed. It is less than 3 hours away.

Now I will deworm my 4 remaining chickens as there were some little wigglers in one of Scaley's cecal poops.

My daughter may choose some feathers as I don't think we will get Scaley back.

Call ahead to make sure they are open this week. If you are able to get the necropsy, let us know when you get the final report. It can help to know if she had a chronic respiratory disease for the future.
