Taking a walk this morning and what do I see???

this!! Tangled in the bird netting around my guinea pen!!

I had no clue what kind of snake he was so called to hubby to come help me. We looked and decided it was a rat snake. We want to keep those around! So hubby sent our grandson for the scissors so he could cut him out of the netting.

And he finally got him out and let my grandson hold him so I could take a picture.

And then he could let it go.

Hopefully he'll be smart and stay away from both the bird netting and the guineas because the guineas wanted him BADLY!!!

I've cut rat snakes out of deer netting several times while DH held them. How on earth they manage to get into those small holes is anybody's guess.

Nah, he's a harmless kind. If he had been a rattler or a copperhead, I'm sad to say, he'd be dead. But harmless one's like this rat snake, we want to keep around! They'll take care of the mice problem we have. Yes, they may take a few eggs but its better than dealing with nasty mice...YUCK.

Hey, I even held him! Of course that was before I read that rat snakes can give a nasty painful bite. LOL

Good save! Around here we have gopher snakes. I'd never seen a rat snake, nor did I know there was one.
