I was talking to the mayor today about my rabbit hutch issues, hopefully chicken coops will follow suit. I can own chickens but not have them outside! Soon I might get to build the real coop and not worry about a stealth one. The mayor was super interested in the idea of raising meat rabbits and feels that the ward members should approve of our hutch. Going to go after a coop when the issue comes up, all the townships have a by-law regarding outside animals that states as long as they are kept clean and secure it's ok. nieghboring towns have lifted it's chicken bans, ours hasn't banned them just not allowed to keep them outside.

OMG I got a email that stated that the hutch was agienst the by law that I need to contact the ward grrr. Going to get a petition as our laws are out dated.

If you build an enclosed coop wouldn't they be "inside"?

Hey, I had a duck as an indoor pet for 6 years and she did great...360 eggs in her lifetime (I kept a log). I built a cage for her out of discarded pallets and hardware cloth. She was my little darling!

When I came into the room, she'd cock her head sideways and look up at me with her sweet little eyes...she followed me everywhere and would even let me trim her nails while she laid on her back in my lap!!

Nobody said anything; I got her as kind of a joke in college...the cooperative house I lived in didn't "allow pets" but I brought her in and just kind of ignored the rules. She'd run down the hallway and it was ever so cute! That fall I moved to my own apartment and my landlord had a "no pets" rule but I had him write her into my lease. She moved with me to Indiana for my first job and I had my landlord there write her into my lease as well, as I recall, I paid a little extra to have her but she was worth it!

Any animal, bird, amphibian or reptile other than a domestic dog which is not housed within the residential unit of the owner of the animal. (is not allowed).

I have to house them in my home, I hope my covered front porch counts as in my home! I do not have a garage!
