We have a 10 month old black lop-eared rabbit. She really belongs to my sister but since we got her at 3 months old, my sister never really tried to tame her because she was scared to. Now she won't let you touch her or she bites and scratches. My sister wants to giver her away but before we do that, I want to try and tame her. We had her spayed thinking it would help but it didn't. Is there any way I can get her to be a friendly, cuddly bunny?

One thing is that rabbits are best tamed when very young...but aside from that ocassionally hold her in a non threatening way and rub her gently behind her ears That seems to help the most...Bring her healthy treats and most of all be slow and calm. after a while she may be receptive of humans. And then there is the slim possibility that she may not have been handled as a young rabbit and that is very hard to over come. Also speak softly around her and get her to associate you with kindness. With our rabbit rescues I also avoid eye contact so they can feel non threatened and try very hard not to bring them in to heavy daylight as light bothers a lot of them help that helps!

another thing to remember is that, actually, a lot of rabbits don't tolerate being held. They are on the bottom of the food chain and that panic instinct is pretty strong.
I'd offer lots of treats from my hand (or even just near me in the beginning), super yummy things that she only gets when she comes to you. Gentle petting/grooming behaviors and get her comfortable with your touch before you try to pick her up to cuddle her.

Just bear in mind that if she never wants to be held, that doesn't mean that she doesn't like you. Give her lots of love in ways that she DOES like and she will be a good bunny friend :)

Ok thanks :) She's really sweet but you can't touch her unless she's eating oats from your hand. Otherwise she'll run away and hide or scratch and bite.
