I just got my girls last weekend and they seem to be getting used to me being around them. When I first got them they would run to the corner farthest from me. Now when I go out they stay about six feet away at all times, except when I am pouring their feed. What should I be doing to make them more trustworthy of me. I go out during the day and just sit near them and watch them eat and when I give treats I put them close to me and watch them eat. Is there anything else I should be doing? I have two barred rocks and two buff orpingtons and all the reviews say they are very friendly birds.

That's sounds about right, they will get used to you and maybe even mob you for food when you approach. You can hold the treats in your hand and eventually one brave one will have a bite then the rest will surely follow the lead. Takes time calmness and patience. But they will probably never be cuddly sit in your lap pets, most chickens don't want to be touched let alone held, tho some can get there if you're persistent. Good Luck and Have Fun!

Sounds like you're off to a great start. x2- Feeding them treats by hand will help them to get accustomed to you and establish a friendliness about you. Also try to pick them up and pet them gently while talking to them. That's what I've done and only 3 out of 15 birds will run away from me. The rest love to peck at certain colors of clothes, hop up on my lap, perch on my arm, and beg for treats. Over time they should become very friendly and love seeing you.
