"Tastes Like Chicken!" A journal of sorts of my foray back into the chicken world.

My mealworms arrived today. Hope they reproduce fast so as to be able to give them to the chickens this winter. Their permanent bin is still in storage so they are in a bucket for now. I won't feed any of them till I get the next generation going.

I am still housebound, but DH got a picture of my chickens for me. 12 hens and a roo. The only named one is Nosey Rosie, named by my mother-in-law. Rosie hops the fence to free range every day. No, my coop and run are not secure. Can't fix it till I am mobile. Just excited to have a picture of them

Things are looking up. My ankle has healed enough that I can go and do almost any job for short periods of time. Mud is awful, though. Really hurts that bad ankle!

We are down to 2 chickens that are in protective custody in a rabbit hutch.
Eagles and a lame fox took their toll.

We have a dog now, lab-shepherd mix, that is helping with the predators.

We took down a section of the chicken yard fence to remove some dead trees. Just waiting on the tree guy to take out the last huge tree. We did the ones up to 10 inches across, but need help for the monster tree.

Once the tree is gone, the fence gets put back, the electric fence goes on, the fence height gets increased and I will start covering the top.

We have eggs in the incubator, Welsummer and Easter Egger and a few mixes. I put the mixed eggs in because the roo I had was so nice and I hope to get another like him.

We hope to have turkeys and geese this year as well.

As, sorry you lost all those birds... Glad your able to be up and about. Ankle breaks are a forever witch. My ma had a car accident, was hit by an elderly man who passed away at the wheel. Both ankles, one leg and one hip, shoulder and arm broke. She says the ankles are the worse now even after near on 10 years...
