Some of you may remember Teddy, our first keet from our own nest, with full article published in the Buckwheat Bites in 2013 with the Guinea Fowl International Association. Well, yeah, he grew up to be a magnificent bird and had a profound influence on the flock and my life. Even though he was 12 when he died, on April 2, 2025, and rationally I know this is pretty old age for a Guinea, I still can't believe he is gone! I miss him so! I think I expected him to be 19 as I heard a Guinea once achieved this age. I carried him in my arms when he could no longer walk with the flock and he died two weeks later, showering me with his heart feathers on the way out. I have buried many Guineas, but this was out of this world hard and still is. The wonders and miracles of life, the surprises and the unexplainable: how we can love and connect in such unexpected ways... I thought some of you may understand.
