Tell me about your Faverolle

I have raised and hatched out LF and BF Faverolles and I didnt have as much of a problem with them. I bought mine from Catulpa Farms or breeders from that line. However the last ones from Sandhill Preservation two years ago, I had nothing but problems with their Mahogany Faverolles, they died or very weak from the get go and its a struggle to keep them alive for at least four months finally I sold them all.

I only got one Faverolle Bantam hen now and shes a real sweetie.

Like some of the BYC members say, it could be due to high inbreeding and weak traits shows up like a sore thumb.

As of to this date, I never had a broody Faverolle but some people may have came across with one or two.

To me, they are excellent layers, my bantams always laid me an egg everyday until molt or very extreme temps made them stop.

Glad you are considering the Faverolles!

Cynthia,
Are you saying the eggs are small vs. buff orp eggs are large? Since I have a bantam now, ALL eggs look big!!

I am a bit concerned at this point about the "thriftiness" of the faverolle...hmmmm

All you can do is to ask a breeder like Mothergoose about her Faverolle Bantams...I dont think she got a problem with her chicks at all.

I think it all boils down who they came from and how much inbreeding this breeder does on his flock.

I have heard alot of people say what dipsy did -- so I made sure my current stock isn't related. I also got my beginning stock from a solid breeder -Nikki HatTrick- We have talked to each other for long enough that we know each others goals -the only major fault I have ever noticed in Favs is button toe
but I also have Blues and just added the Salmon so i may see it yet in them---
guess they are like NN's ya either like or ya don't

I have 2 SF's one is laying. Her eggs are the same size as my Barred Rock and Rhode Island Red eggs.

They are very sweet birds and it does take some time to get them accepted into an established flock. Mine are finally comfortable with my first original 4 chickens. They especially love my 2 EEs.

I did not get mine as chicks they were almost at egg laying age. Both were cage raised with not alot of human contact. They both are still very sweet and come running when called for treats and both eat out of our hands. When we first introduced them into our flock one would climb into the kid's laps and hide her head if she was to scared or getting picked on.

The SF egg is the lightest egg (top left) the other two eggs are from my RIR and BR.

Edited to add: they are very dirty we have had two weeks worth of rain so our place is a mud hole
